This is a blog to keep me accountable on my workouts, what I am eating and my personal goals of being a working mother of 3 kids and trying to make life fit together with time for me. As any working mom knows it is hard for us to remember to take time for ourselves. It is VERY important to do this because we want to be around for our children and be healthy, mentally and physically. I have started this because over the last 6 years I have seen my weight creep up on me and I am currently in a place I never thought that I would be, in a size I thought I would never been. When the “MOM” is not happy no one is happy. Do not get me wrong, my life is great. I have a wonderful and supportive husband, great kids and wonderful friends. I have just forgotten about me and what values I find important. One of those is being active. I enjoy spending time outside and going for bike rides.
My husband and I started last year doing P90X and I must say I was religious about doing the workout 6 times a week for the 12 weeks and IT WORKED! Then the weather started to get nice and I wanted to spend more time outside, which would be great if I actually did a workout. Walking with two small children is not a good workout when they are walking with you. The pace is WAY to slow. Although I did sign up and do two bike races last year both at 50 miles each. I loved it! I watched my husband train for his first Sprint Tri and a dear friend train for the ultimate journey the Florida Ironman. What a goal to have.
I have since signed up for a Super Sprint Tri in May, Plan on doing two more Sprint Tri’s and one 5K race and a couple of Bike Rides (this time my goal will be the full Century). I must say that I am not a fan of running, but oh how those runners have such a wonderful lean body. I FORCE myself to run. People talk about runners high; I really think they make it up. Even when I was in shape and started to run and was not bad at it, I NEVER had the pleasure of knowing what a runner high is all about. I still think it is a farce.
To give everyone a look into a day and life of Me: Day starts at 5:30 to get up and get showered and ready to go to work and leave my house by 6:45. Please note that there are two small children to get ready; please note I do have a VERY helpful husband. I have a 45 min commute in the morning to be at work by 7:30. Then I leave my office around 4:30 every day to be at daycare by 5:30ish to pick up my girls. Then we get home and start dinner and hopefully sit down by 6:30, 6:45 for dinner. Then it is bath time after dinner. We are usually done with that process by 7:30. So now begins homework, if we have any and snuggle/family time. Try to have the baby in the bed by 8ish. My goal is to be working out after the little one goes down for the night. I can be honest it can be VERY hard to be motivated at 8:30 at night. That is a challenge. I have tried to get up in the morning, but let’s be honest 4:30 to workout, really.?
So with all of that being said, I hope that this will make me accountable to my workouts, what I am eating and maybe others will have some suggestions on how to juggle being a working mother of 3 and finding time for myself.
