Speed Week

In an effort to change up the training routine a little I’m labeling this weeks workouts as “Speed Week”.  It started tonight with a short 3 mile run, yet it was a quicker than usual pace.  I averaged 8:30 per mile… and it felt good.  I was not too winded, yet I could tell that I was in an anaerobic zone toward the end of the run.  I was glad to see my heart rate recover pretty quickly.  Curious about heart rate zones, most treadmills/workout equipment have labeled zones that are pretty conservative.  I’m keeping around 155 bpm when keeping a decent pace, a 10 minute flat mile is about 145 bpm.  I wonder if there is a way to calculate ones “optimal” workout heart rate rather than use generic standards.  By the way, my treadmill has my “Max” heart rate at 145 bpm.

Tomorrow is  a swim/P90X day, I’m still considering distance & timing so I’ll let you know tomorrow how “Speed Week” works in the pool in tomorrows post.
